SHINTO SHRINE TEA TABLE

Rs. 473,000

Functional art at its truest is bringing in something extraordinary to something extremely functional. If we could bring in the essence of Japan in a piece of furniture, the Shinto shrine would be the answer. The architectural vocabulary of the Edo period comes in the form of a red polished Tori gate, a symbol of entering the spiritual realm. The slant stepped base represents Japan’s mountainous terrain. It also resembles the way samurais used to bow in front of the Shogun. Special attention to joinery detailing custom made for this piece is seen in the hind legs of the table. Everything except for the glass is made in Japanese joinery techniques & finished in a graceful French polish. A special red polish has been invented for this particular piece to bring it closest to its original glory. At the end it is not just a coffee table but a conversation piece for eclectic collectors, world travellers, multi country generalists, philosophers, the likes of who would want a piece of their exquisite travels & cultural revelations in their homes.
