Asymmetric Chair
Asymmetric Chair
The Asymmetric chair is a fusion of two distinct styles. One side is a royal British colonial while the other is a bold art deco. A combination of these distinct styles creates a dichotomy of philosophies & design vocabularies which brings about a unique functional piece of art. While the pieces of the chair look different the wooden members are homogenous. The chair speaks in an eccentric yet luxurious language of the wealth of art deco & the power of British colonial. The colonial side is finished in our patented dark Calamander polish while the art deco side is a golden natural French polish. Hand woven original Rattan cane occupies the middle section of the colonial side while filleted openings ornament the deco side. The seat is a black & white handstitched leather upholstery with exposed thread work as detailing. Handcrafted by a single carpenter who has created numerous chairs of these two styles. The chair is a metaphor of a transition era during the 1930s & 40s telling a story of changing aesthetics & trends.
CONCEPT
The chair is inspired from the two great eras of western wealth & influence. A confluence of the two becomes of the person seated on it.
