GLASS SAIL CHAIR
The Ocean and its sailing ships have had a seductive call on me since my childhood. Here I tried to develop a progressive modernism by pairing uncompromising traditional construction techniques with the abstraction of everyday industrial and natural forms. The “Glass Chair” is a small experiment that stretches glass to its physical limits. The frame is made out of locally grown Indian Teak, the pliable yet strong wood used for Indian furniture in which individual panes of glass have been inserted within the curves of the frame. The backrest& the seat appearing like billowed sails are Joined & stabilized by a teak mast. Also by Placing the outer surface of the glass in tension, the seat and the backrest can hold an occupants weight without breaking. With such new designs, [ want the people to feel excited, curious and anxious, not just nostalgic
